In my lab in Aberdeen we are driven by the observation that motor neurons are not the first or the only cells affected in some motor neurone diseases. We are working to discover the significance of these system-wide defects.

I am a basic scientist interested in the neuromuscular system. We have shown severe defects in the blood vessels which supply motor neurons and also surprising organ pathologies in a childhood form of motor neurone disease (Spinal Muscular Atrophy). We are investigating the cellular mechanics of these defects using a variety of model systems to gain insight into what drives this devastating disease.
