Early Career Researcher Wins Poster Competition
Congratulations to Euan MacDonald researcher, Yvonne Clarkson, of Mandy Jackson's lab! Clarkson recently won the Organon (Schering-Plough) poster competition at Edinburgh Neuroscience's annual Neuroscience Day.
Her winning poster, entitled "beta-III spectrin deficient mice provide a new animal model for cerebella ataxia" describes how mutations in a protein found in the cytoskeleton give rise to a debilitating physical condition known as spinocerebellar ataxia type 5. Mice lacking this protein develop characteristic features of the disorder, including progressive loss of motor coordination and a wider hind-limb gait--symptoms which mimic the human form of the condition.
Clarkson will receive £500 towards attending a scientific meeting of her choice, courtesy of Organon (Schering-Plough).
