New SMA paper published

This week Lyndsay Murray, Tom Gillingwater, Simon Parson and collaborators in Oxford have published a paper in Human Molecular Genetics, which clearly demonstrates that Spinal Muscular Atrophy is not a disease caused by faulty development, rather animals are normal at birth, but then undergo rapid loss of neuromuscular synapses. Most importantly, this work demonstrates that a clear treatment window exists for SMA patients during which synapses could be rescued by drugs and other interventions.
