6th UK SMA Researchers' Conference
Dr Tom Gillingwater hosted a very successful 6th UK SMA Researchers' Conference at The Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh on 5-6th October. The meeting was joint funded by the Jennifer Trust and SMA Trust and was attended by over 50 delegates, representing every laboratory active in SMA research in the UK. The Euan MacDonald Centre was also well represented at the meeting.
Guest speakers were Margarida Gama Carvalho from The University of Lisbon and Eugenio Mercuri from the Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Rome and who are both recent recipients of SMA Europe grant funding.
The meeting was a fantastic opportunity to meet other researchers and share knowledge toward our understanding of this devastating disease, and in particular the drive to standardise measures of clinical outcomes in drug trials was a worthy aim. Apart from the science, the evening meal followed by a ceildh was judged a great success!
