Skiing for Science & Small Animals: an epic Arctic Expedition

Christine is raising funds and awareness for three different causes: the Euan MacDonald Centre for MND Research; the Small Animals Hospital at the Royal Dick Vet School at Edinburgh University and the Malamute Matters charity which supports rescue dogs.

She will be heading to the northern side of the Brooks Range in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Alaska to undertake a 12 day expedition led by Joe “Malamute Man” Henderson and his formidable team of 22 Alaskan Malamutes. She will be cross-country skiing and mushing approximately 120 miles across the Arctic, camping out in temperatures as low as -20C. This extreme sponsored trek will be a test of physical and mental endurance; the intensive training has already begun in earnest.Christine Meerman-Cooper Arctic

But the real challenge lies in gaining the support of as many people as she can to help raise vital funds and awareness of the causes behind her expedition.

Support here.

All of the charities are close to Christine’s heart and she recently interviewed one of our Wellcome Trust Fellows Nina Rzechorzek to find out more about her work at the Centre, read it here.

We wish Christine the best of luck with her training and encourage everyone to donate what they can in support!
