The World Hickory Festival of Golf 2010 - Supporting The Euan MacDonald Centre

June 2010

How would you like to go back to the 1930's for a wee round of golf? Interested? Then look out your cloth cap and plus fours and join in the 2010 World Hickory Festival of Golf!

This years golf festival runs from 20th to 24th September and includes the 6th World Hickory Open Championship. The event Chairman, Lionel Freedman, has announced that this year the World Hickory Golf Festival will support two charities, namely The Euan Mac Donald Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Research and Keepers of the Green (www.keepersofthegreen.org)

Five consecutive days of golf will be played at Musselburgh, Craigielaw, Archerfield and Gullane 2 & 3 courses. You can bring a team for a single day's golf or for the whole week and clubs can be provided at no extra cost. There's also a dinner at Gullane on Thursday.

Hickory golf differs from conventional golf as players use vintage hickory clubs. Hickory wood is extremely hard, stiff, dense and shock resistant and that combination of strength, toughness, hardness and stiffness is not found in any other commercial wood; thus a fantastic material for golf clubs. Players say that using 100 year old clubs is a truly unique experience that sharpens the senses whilst allowing the game to be played on classic golf courses exactly as it was meant to be played!

On behalf of everyone at The Euan MacDonald Centre we would like to thank the World Hickory Golf Festival for supporting the Centre's important research work.
